Welding/Services/Sales/CertificationThe Canadian Welding Bureau was formed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) over 60 years ago. The purpose of the Welding Bureau is to administer Canada's national welding standards, which are embedded in the national building code and other industry specific documents. Funded by industry, and acting on behalf of the Canadian public, the Welding Bureau plays an important role by certifying welding companies that create products for use within Canada as well as the welders and welding consumables used in their creation. Within the Structural and erecting industry it is mandatory that all companies be certified by the Welding Bureau however many non-welding companies choose to be voluntarily certified, as the Welding Bureau is the only organization that issues nationally recognized credentials.
Education and TrainingThe CWB Institute (CWBi) is Canada's leading educational resource for welding and non-destructive testing/evaluation training. In support of the welding, joining and inspection industry, the CWBi provides training for the vast majority of Canadian Welding inspectors and supervisors, as well as being the only national body accredited to issue qualifications for welding engineers. For non-destructive education, the CWBi covers the full range of standard NDE methods, as well as providing additional critical courses, such as Radiation Safety and Protection – CEDO. With qualified instructors and training facilities located across Canada, the CWBi is able to offer students and their employers a range of education options from custom on-site training to self paced on-line learning. CWBi also provides additional courses tied to welding sales professional, non-welding engineers, building officials as well as high school and post-secondary instructors and students. The CWBi has invested heavily in providing and managing a standardized nationalized curriculum, testing and skills assessment for welding training. Under the Acorn brand, this program bridges the needs of both education and industry to create, qualify and reward a pool of skilled labours. The CWBi leads the way in skills trade education, integrating technologies like rapid prototyping, augmented reality, on-line learning and mobilized content to provide training solutions that are fully modern, up-to-date and provide training in a truly engaging fashion.
Canadian Welding Association MembershipThe Canadian Welding Association (CWA) is a not-for-profit division of the CWB Group and is a membership driven association, mandated to promote and support the welding and joining industry in Canada. The CWA is represented throughout Canada by a loyal Chapter membership of over 65,000 professionals and companies in the welding and joining industry. The CWA plays a key role by engaging with and educating industry, government agencies, educational institutions and the general public about the opportunities and importance of welding and joining in Canada.
