| Breakaway base | Safety Base is a device which utilizes frangible couplers for attaching a pole to the pole base. The couplers are sufficently strong to withstand, in tension and bending, the external bending and torque imposed by static forces and by wind loads. However, the couplers are so designed that should a moving vehicle strike the pole, they will fracture from an impact force which is small enough not to be critical to the occupants of the automobile. |
