| Skill Development Products and Courses | CCAA has developed a suite of training solutions to assist organizations with their day to day management strategies, safety management strategies, risk mitigation strategies and quality assurance. Each of these solutions was developed to assist organizations with implementing their Safety Management Systems. A Safety Management System (SMS) is a set of integrated work practices, beliefs and procedures for monitoring, supporting and improving the quality of safety and human performance in an organization. SMS assists organizations in recognizing the potential for errors and the impact these errors have on safety and the bottom line. It also establishes robust defences to prevent errors from causing injury or accident. CCAA subject-matter experts are industry-experienced individuals with in-depth knowledge and experience. | Certification and Accreditation | Certification CCAA is the only nationally recognized occupation certifying body representing the aviation/aerospace industry. Certification is documented proof that an individual has met the requirements of a particular occupation and possesses the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities for the job. Each applicant begins to document competencies in a CCAA logbook which describes in detail all the tasks and sub-tasks required. The applicant works through the tasks in the logbook, demonstrating competencies in each one to an independent CCAA approved evaluator, who then signs it off. When the applicant has fulfilled all the requirements for certification, they submit the completed logbook to CCAA, who issues certification upon review and approval. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) who can provide a current Transport Canada license and resume can request to be certified without the requirement of a CCAA logbook. Certification provides documented national recognition of knowledge, skills and abilities (competencies) in a specified occupation. It also provides credentials and proof of qualifications, enabling portability of skills, demonstrating that the individual is a career-long learner and identifying them as a professional. Ultimately, industry values certification because it provides a standard benchmark of skills and facilitates an employer's recruitment process. Accreditation Accreditation is a quality assurance process that evaluates how well aviation and aerospace training programs conform to the requirements established in an occupations National Training Standard (Instructor Guide/Curriculum), which is based on CCAAs Occupational Standard (OS). Standards used as the basis for accreditation have been developed by industry stakeholders (employers, employees and educators) through CCAAs National Standing Trade Advisory Committees (NSTACs) to define the skills and knowledge needed by a technician in order to function effectively in a particular occupation. CCAAs accreditation process measures the extent to which a training organizations program meets or exceeds the requirements specified in the CCAA Instructor Guide for that discipline. Training programs are audited every three years to maintain accredited status. |
| Development of National Occupational Standards | National Occupational Standards The National Occupational Standards are developed through a process called an occupational analysis. CCAA directs the performance of an occupational analysis with the assistance of subject-matter experts who work together to document the tasks and sub-tasks executed by workers in the performance of their duties. The analysis also itemizes the knowledge requirements to perform each task and sub-task, including equipment and tools utilized to accomplish them. An Occupational Standard (OS) identifies the tasks performed in a particular occupation and describes the knowledge and skills required to perform these tasks competently. The OS also forms the basis for the accompanying logbook and the development of a curriculum, which allow the certification of technicians and the accreditation of training programs. To date, CCAA has developed 29 national occupational standards for the aviation and aerospace occupations. |
